You might not have heard of a man named Paul David Hewson but it is likely that you have heard of the his stage name -- Bono. There are few people, from those working in Tokyo to those that run a dentist Courtice Ontario clinic that have not. Bono is the Irish lead singer of the band U2 and is now known as one of the most famous humanitarians in the world. He has written all of the lyrics for the songs his band has written and frequently includes religious, political and social themes into this work. We want to dedicate this site to everything about the life and work of Bono.

Paul David Hewson was born in Dublin in 1960 and was raised in a Roman Catholic household with his parents and one brother. He lost his mother to a cerebral aneurysm when he was only 14 and would go on to write several songs about this experience. He got the nickname Bono in high school when he was part of a surrealist street gang called Lypton Village. It was a short form for the Latin phrase "Bono Vox", which means good voice. Many people with a U2 CD in their landscaping companies Carlisle work truck or at home on their shelf would likely agree that this was a suitable name choice for the future superstar.

It was while attending Mount Temple Comprehensive School for high school that Bono met his bandmates and his wife, Alison Hewson. The original band was formed in 1976 when Bono, David Evans (who would later be known as The Edge), David's brother Dik, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr started jamming together. Those who listen to their music now while working for a granite Vancouver company or while riding the bus to school might not be familiar with their sound back then. They were originally called the Feedbacks and played music closer to hard rock. It was Bono that got them writing their own songs once Dik left and they changed their name to U2.

Bono started out as one of the guitar players for the band but it was soon discovered that he was much more talented as a singer and songwriter. He still says that he does not have any more skill for the guitar than any average person who works as a teacher or for a web design Hamilton company and plays in their spare time. U2's sound has changed over the years and the band has won several awards for their albums and singles over the years. Bono has also collaborated with many other artists, from Frank Sinatra to Tina Turner and even co-wrote the musical Spiderman, Turn off the Dark with The Edge.

Bono is also well-known for his philanthropic work and has been connected to charities as diverse as Debt AIDS Trade Africa, Amnesty International, and the ONE Campaign. He has worked with everyone from Bill Clinton to Canadian immigration consultants to raise awareness for the AIDS epidemic in Africa and started the Project Red initiative with Bobby Shriver. This is a project that has partners in Apple, the Gap, Microsoft, Dell, and several others.

This is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the life and accomplishments of Bono. Read on to find out more about his history and current projects.
